...And it's September!
Wow....I can't believe it's been a month since our little girl came into this world. The time has gone by so fast! I thought I would have more time for this blog, but alas, we are going on 1 post a month. At least most of the people who care to read this can see all the Facebook photos I post. :)
Adalyn, Andrew, and I are finally starting to get on a schedule. We start our nights with a bath around 8 or 9, then we try to have storytime, and I nurse her to sleep. She usually goes out around 11 and doesn't wake up until 5:30. "Drama" as we have nicknamed her was having a difficult time with what the Dr. thought was reflux. At her 1 month appt. yesterday however, I expressed my concern with her being on medication and that I wanted to make sure it was "absolutely" reflux and not something else (since she was gaining well and not spitting up that much). Anyway, after a consultation with the lactation consultant at the practice, we finally determined that I have an oversupply of milk (with my surgery, we never thought THIS would be the problem). To make a long explanation short, because I produce so much, Adalyn takes in a ton of the foremilk (like skim milk), fills up, and doesn't get to the creamy, filling stuff. The foremilk digests too fast, upsets her stomach, and leaves her hungry ALL.THE.TIME. Here is a better explanation for all of you that are interested (ha!): http://www.breastfeeding-md.com/Nightingales/Breastfeeding_Help_Handouts_files/Oversupply.pdf
We are also going to try and eliminate a cow's milk protein problem, so I'm cutting out dairy for the next 10 days and then I'll slowly introduce some back in to see if it makes a difference. I'm super excited to maybe have an answer to all of her tears and lack of sleep.
All in all, we are doing really well and both Andrew and I are continue to be in awe of her and how she is growing. I feel like she changes everyday.
Some milestones:
9lbs 2oz. and 21 inches at 1 month appt.
She can hold her head up pretty well and can lift and turn her head to change sides during tummy time :)
Her lungs work: she can scream like no other.
