Where to start? Easter weekend, I guess. The Saturday before Easter, we headed up to Sleeping Giant State Park in the town I grew up in. I climbed that mountain countless times as a kid. Our family dog's ashes are even scattered at the top. It was so cool bringing Adalyn there. Andrew and I went on many hikes there while we were dating, so it's special to us as a couple as well. We chose the easy Tower Trail and took turns pushing Adalyn up the mountain in her stroller. And then it was picture time at the top!
Sunday morning we headed off to church and then it was off to make our share of the potluck Easter dinner at our friend's house. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. We are incredibly blessed with all the friends that we've met through our church. Part of our family:
Andrew made a DELICIOUS ham, I made Magnolia's famous carrot cake (I planned a whole blog post for this and then never took a picture of the final product!) , and we made "real" green bean casserole - you know, not the canned stuff. Besides all the yummy food, we got to play outside with all the kids. I think it was close to 70 and sunny that day. Andrew spent his time giving wagon rides.
Annie pushed Adalyn in the swing.
I'm bummed we didn't get a single family picture (I can't believe I forgot to take one!). But I did snap this one of Andrew and Adalyn. I love these two more than I ever imagined loving anyone.
It was then a blur of a week as we prepared for a crazy weekend. Andrew and I headed to NYC Friday night to dun dun dun...announcement....join his future classmates at NYU Stern for a meet and greet. That's right folks, Andrew had 3 schools to choose from, but he has chosen NYU for the fall. It's a great fit for him and we couldn't pass up the incredible scholarship package they offered. I'm so proud of him.
My mom came into town on Saturday to watch Adalyn and we headed back into the city for an afternoon and fun night out with students again. Then, we packed for a trip to Boston on Sunday. One of my best friends from college, Lauren, was running the marathon and I couldn't wait to go up and see her and introduce sweet Adalyn. The pictures are still sitting in my camera, but I'll hopefully get them off by tomorrow and have another post for you all. Boston was way more crowded than I imagined and we didn't get home until almost 9:30pm Monday night.
The rest of last week was spent looking for our next place to live. I think Adalyn and I went to about 15 places in total. After a lot of searching, praying, and admittedly some fighting, we think we know where we are headed for the next year. Andrew and I came to the conclusion that we wanted to come out of grad school with as little debt as possible - and that meant that NYC was probably not the best option for us. All the 2 bedrooms we were finding online were a minimum of $2800...well the 2 bedrooms that would work for us anyway. And it would be best for my business for us to stay in residential Connecticut. Basically, we could list way more pros than cons for staying in CT. We were fortunate enough to find a cute little 2 bedroom house in a town a few miles south from where we are now. Andrew can walk to the train station and his commute will be a 50 min. train ride and then a 15 min. subway ride (plus some walking). He's a trooper. First semester will be tough, but then he'll only be going in Monday-Thursday. The house needs some TLC but it has a pretty sweet fenced in yard for Adalyn. It's also on an extrememly nice street. The house across the street is on sale for $1 million! The landlords agreed to knock $100 of the rent for us and to let us paint, so we'll have our work cut out for us when/if we move in on June 1st. I'm saying "if" because we haven't finalized the lease yet. I'm not going to sit comfortably until it's signed. But then again, if it doesn't work out, I know that God has another place in mind for us.
Ok, that was the longest post ever and I'm off to catch up on some laundry and baby food making. It never ends!
