Like the alliteration? Me too. ;) This has been a busy week catching up with work from vacation, but I'm almost caught up. Ute (because I know you are reading this), your photos are almost done. :)
I've been dying to share about our trip to Michigan and I know our family members are anxiously awaiting the pictures. We had a great time, and here is the photo dump from our trip.
But first, some unexpected happenings: 1) We purposely left Tuesday evening so the kiddos would sleep in the car. THIS.DID.NOT HAPPEN. Adalyn snoozed from 9pm-12am and then 4:30am-6:30am when we arrived. Let's just say that the chunk of time spent cruising through Ohio was interesting. 2) On Friday, I noticed that I was starting to get a clogged duct, but figured it would resolve on it's own. By Friday evening, Andrew and I returned home early from our date night, and within a few hours I was convulsing with chills. There were moments of early Saturday morning that I honestly thought I could die from this. Mastisis is no joke and I was so thankful that my OB was willing to call in antibiotics. I was almost all better from mastisis by early Sunday for our drive back, but was completely heartsick for Adalyn. We had made the decision to let her spend more time with family at the lake since 1)I would have a ton of work to do and she would have way more fun there and 2) Ellie and I have never really had any alone time. I literally sobbed the whole way home - which took just over 15 hrs (vs.12) because of holiday traffic. I definitely underestimated how it would feel to have her so far away for over 4 nights, and I am absolutely delighted that she is back within kissing reach now. Andrew's mom is staying with us for the week and his sister flies in tomorrow. I know what you're thinking....you get to use the new basement guestroom and playroom now! Yay!!!. NO. The basement will now not be finished until August because something is backordered or blah blah blah. I know that God purposely gave me two children close together to force me to learn to just let things go. I'm getting much better at it - not totally cured from my perfectionism, but getting a whole lot better. There are 3 loads of clean laundry that have been sitting in our bedroom, in a basket, for almost a week. This never would have happened with the old me.
Anyway, these pictures mean so much to me. I love documenting our first summer together as a family of 4! ::
It was somewhere around 8:30pm when I took this shot. She wasn't sleeping, but she was surprisingly well-behaved for being in the car for so long. This was also after our quest to find the Sonic Drive In off of i80 in Pennsylvania. The first year Andrew and I drove out to Michigan (2009), we stopped at a Sonic along the way. And every year since then, we never remember which exit the Sonic is at, but we know it's about 3 hours from home. We desperately searched for it this time and could not find it. I was on my phone Googling, using the location locater on their website - everything - and we could not find it! Ellie needed to nurse and we both had to pee, so we gave up and stopped at some McDonalds. Of course, it was the exit just past the one we stopped at. And did I write down the exit number? No! Ugh. We went through the same process on the way back, only because of the traffic, we were even more irritated about it's MIA status on the world wide web.
Once we arrived, Andrew and I decided to take a little nap, and Miss Eloise got to meet her Great Grandma.
It was an oddly chilly day, but that didn't stop Adalyn from having fun.
Bible, bible, bible. <3
4th of July started out with a run for Andrew and I, and then it was time to play on the boat and in the lake! Ellie just chilled on people. Literally.
One of the best things about Michigan are all of Andrew's family members that come along. His cousins were also there and brought their 2 golden retrievers. Adalyn adored them....and especially cousin "Para Jayne" aka Sarah Jane.
Adalyn LOVED the boat:
This is Adalyn's new favorite thing to do - play "docca". Love it.
And then we took some family photos
Sorry, but Andrew and I make THE MOST GORGEOUS little girls. Hands down.
And while I love shooting people, I love challenging my photography skills in new ways and for whatever reason, that always means me not shooting people! This photo was not color enhanced at all. The sky really did look just like this!
I broke out my tripod for firework shots.
This was a 30 second exposure shot. If you remember some of my 2013 goals, this was one of them. Check! :
And then much of the rest of days were spent just lounging by the lake and playing on the boat!
We did take Adalyn to a fruit and "pet" farm, but there were only 2 goats. They did have some really awesome pie though.
Around 5pm every evening, everyone goes for "Toony Time"....basically happy hour on the boat. It's usually pretty uneventful, but this time, Adalyn took her first jump into the water, and there was a bird rescue. Yes, a bird rescue. There was a nest on the very bottom of the boat, and when a wave came up and hit it, all the baby birds were thrown into the water. So all of Andrew's little cousins went in and saved them! So awesome. And mama bird still continued to bring them food.
And we were even treated to a rainbow and another gorgeous sunset on our last night. :)
