Dearest Baby Girl,

I can't believe you are 6 months old today.  Everyone told me that it would go by fast, and girl, it sure has.

You are the light of our lives and you make us complete.
You make me laugh at least 10 times a day.
I love you more than I will ever be able to describe in words.
Being your mother makes me the luckiest woman in the world.

You are the most beautiful baby I have ever seen.  I know everyone says this about their kids, but seriously, you are gorgeous.  Most people who meet you comment on your eyes.  They are the perfect royal blue.  You still look just like your daddy, but have an attitude like your mama's.

You are already showing signs of an independent spirit.  Example: During your 6 month photoshoot I took last week, you got tired of wearing your hat and thought it would make a better chew toy.

You are eating solid food like a champion.  You have tried rice and oatmeal ceral, bananas, pears, apples, sweet potato, avocado, peas, butternut squash, and most recently, green beans.  I make all of your baby food.  The only thing you don't seem to care for these days is avocado, but it's okay since I don't really make that.  You can't eat cake yet, but don't worry, we got you one for your 6 month birthday anyway:

You are rolling front to back, back to front, sitting up, babbling away (and making "m" consonant sounds when you wake in the middle of the night!), and learning to stand on your own.  Your favorite toy is your jumperoo.  You bounce and laugh for hours.

I can still count on Sophie the Giraffe to soothe you.  You use pacifiers for naps and nighttime and can pick them up and put them back in your mouth.  You are so smart!

Speaking of your sleep patterns, there is room for improvement.  You take 3, 30 minutes naps a day, though today you took 45 minute ones!  You go to sleep at 7pm, wake up around 1am for your pacifier (I wish you could see it in the dark) and then wake up around 4am to nurse.  I nurse you in bed, and then you go back to sleep until about 6:45am.  I miss the days of sleeping in until 8am with you.  We had to put the bumpers back on your crib because you were getting your foot caught between the slats even with the breathable bumper:

Oh and your giggling.  It's the best!  It doesn't take much to make you laugh either.  Everyone also comments on what a good baby you are.  Seriously, you only cry when you're hungry or tired....or when you don't want a nap.

We sing "Silent Night" every night before bed.  I tell you, "Mommy loves you, Daddy loves you, God and Jesus love you, and I'll see you in the morning".  I kiss your forehead and look forward to waking up to your gummy smile.  It's a piece of Heaven on Earth.

You have a lot of baby friends.  Elodie, Catharine, Ethan, Max, Colin, Kenneth, and Luke.  You also think your toddler friends are hilarious.  Mikayla, Naomi, Sam, Elliot, and Annelise are so much fun.

Life with you is so good right now.

Here are some more fun pictures I took of you to remember this precious, precious, time.  I only took about 200.

This is one of my favorites because it looks like you're praying.

The Pause Button

We DVR every TV show we watch and often hit the pause button to reflect on something we've seen.  Sometime it's for a good laugh, sometimes it's to clarify what happened - such a useful tool that pause button is.  I sometimes wish life came with one.  I spent most of my teenage years wishing away high school, looking forward to college.  I remember wanting to leave college and enter the REAL world so badly (yes, I laugh about that now).  But I don't want to go anywhere now.  Sure, I wish I knew where we were going to end up come this fall, but I'm oh so content in the lives we lead now.  And Adalyn - our sweet baby girl - is growing up too fast.  And so I like to think of my camera as our pause button for life, a way for us to capture special moments and reflect and live in them just a little longer.  I would love a rewind button for this weekend.  Such a great one.  This Saturday in pictures:

I came home from the gym to this.  Daddy and daughter time, and Jada couldn't help but join in.

And Saturday night was just as fun.  Some playtime...

She can stand on her own for a few minutes!!

Adalyn was out by 7, and then we ordered Thai takeout and watched the Hangover 2.  We were underwhelmed to say the least, but it did provide us with some great laughs.

And now I'm off to girls night at Barcelona with my new mommy friends.  Saaaaangria can you hear me?
