Snow - no exclamation point.

A sign that you're getting old?  You are no longer excited for a snowstorm.  Like most kids, I used to LOVE snow.  No school, sledding, forts, hot chocolate.  We've been blessed with an unseasonably warm winter and we had our first snow (if you don't count that random storm that knocked out our power for 2 days in October) of the season this Saturday.  Don't get me wrong...I love the day of the storm.  It's so pretty and you have an excuse to be lazy all day.  It's the days after when the snow melts and everything becomes a brown, muddy mess that I can no longer stand.  And for some reason, it just seems so much colder when the ground is white.  Buuuuut, I could.not.wait. to put Adalyn in the snow and get some pictures. I'm also excited for next year's winter when she'll be able to play in it - how fun!

*side note.  I researched snow photography because I heard that you have to make adjustments to your exposure because of the brightness of the snow.  True Statement.  If you're metering in Manual, I found that 1-1.5 stops up corrected the grayness of the snow without overexposing her face.  I also had my white balance set to the "Cloudy" setting on my camera.  I think it warmed it up some, though I did still have to do some tweaks in processing (used the dropper in Lightroom).

I never bought her an actual snowsuit, but a close family friend gave her this super thick snow fleece.  I didn't know how the photos would turn out since it was beige in color, but I think it made her face and hat stand out a lot more - so I'm happy!  And I loved her reaction to being outside.  She just kept staring up at the sky.  Maybe the snow was too bright for her?

She sat up most of time, and then just flopped over.  I was waiting for her to cry, but she just laid there, staring up at the sky again.

Oh, and I'm tired.  Really, really tired.  She sleeps 8-9 hours stretches at night, but they now start at 7.  I've been staying up with Andrew until 10:30-11 lately and it's got to stop.  I'm going to bed in exactly 1hr from now.  Good night!
